Seraphina bids you farewell with a hug—one you almost regret when you notice the paint splatters on your jacket. “For inspiration!” she calls cheerfully as she disappears into the forest.
Your path leads you to an overgrown pagoda, its grim-looking rooftops looming high above the treetops.
Tinker buzzes eagerly, guiding you as if your survival depended on her. In front of the pagoda stands a table with a game board that looks like it spent the night inside an ancient dictionary. Instead of the usual letter tiles, the spaces glimmer like gemstones, and the letters on them seem to whisper their meanings.
Seated behind the board is a man in a robe that radiates wisdom—and a long katana that suggests he doesn’t just master words. You wonder if he will be the answer to the question of which is stronger, the sword or the word. “So, you’re Seraphina’s student,” he says in a tone that’s neither surprised nor impressed.
“I am Yoru, strategist of the resistance. What happens here isn’t a game—it’s conquest.” He gestures to the Scrabble board. “This is no board—it’s a battlefield. Words are weapons, if placed wisely.”
Tinker projects a chaotic tangle of letters into the air and hums in agreement. She seems to have already penciled in your victory. “Seraphina showed you how words feel,” Yoru says. “Now you’ll learn how to wield them.” “The resistance needs messages that shatter enemies and lift allies.”
With a casual flick, he slides the board toward you. “Arrange the letters. Form words that burn and heal. If you succeed, your words will be mightier than any blade.” A heavy stomping sound breaks the silence. “Kragor Ironfist,” Yoru murmurs. “He’ll be joining us soon.” Tinker blinks excitedly. You glance down at the board, swallow hard— and begin to shape your strategy.
